Second, the communal does not obliterate the individual. A second not-so-secret secret to success is the "10,000 Hour Principle." Successful people, whether athletes, authors, or business persons, don't achieve success until they have put in at least 10,000 hours of work. That means 4 hours a day, five days a week, fifty weeks a year, for ten years. |

첫째, 개개인의 역량만으로 이루는 성공은 없다. 오히려 당사자가 속한 공동체의 전폭적인 지원, 가족, 배경, 걸어온 길, 유년기의 교육, 인간관계, 친구 관계, 연줄, 직장 동료 등이 성공에 이르는 데 핵심적인 역할을 한다.

둘째, 공동체 지원이 중요하다고 해도 이에 대한 개인의 시간투자는 여전히 중요하다.

성공에 이르는 사람들, 그들이 운동선수, 작가, 혹은 사업가이건 간에 그들의 전문 분야의 일에 최소 10,000시간에 달하는 투자를 하지 않고는 성공을 이루어 낼 수 없다는 원칙이다.
That means 4 hours a day, five days a week, fifty weeks a year, for ten years.
여기에서 이야기하는 10,000시간이라 함은, 하루 4시간, 일주일에 5일간, 일년 50주 동안 시간을 투자하여 10년 동안을 지속하는 시간이다.

‘1만 시간의 법칙’
하루에 4시간씩 10년을 한 가지 일에 전념하는 것, 결코 쉽지 않습니다.
1만 시간의 법칙이 영어를 배우는 일에도 적용될까요?
네, 적용됩니다. 그러나 1만 시간은 투자해야 할 최소한의 시간입니다.
이 글을 읽으면서 좀 슬픈 생각이 들었습니다.
요즘 한국 사회에서 자주 회자되는 ‘부의 대물림’이란 말,
또 속칭 ‘빽’이란 말도 떠올랐습니다.
그러나 기죽지 마세요.
